50 Minutes February 14, 2025

The Old Man’s neurologist recommended that he try to walk non-stop for fifty minutes, two or three times a week. This Friday morning was a great time to carry out that recommendation.

He set out from his back porch right after breakfast at 8:00 AM. It was a beautiful February day in South Alabama. The temperature was 42 degrees, but there is no wind. The bright sun has dried all the puddles from the rains earlier in the week.  He is wearing his winter coat, which has a hood. As he moves, he can hear the brush of the hood against his hearing aids. He forgot his gloves and makes a mental note to remember them for future walks.

His practice is to walk one block up each side street. The neighborhood is built on a huge mound of dirt, so some of the side streets are quite steep. He meets very little automobile traffic. His neighborhood has sidewalks everywhere,  a wonderful place to walk. He meets one other pedestrian on his walk of more than an hour, and he stops to rub her dog’s ears.

Otherwise it is a solitary walk but very pleasant. By the time he returns to his blogging table and a second cup of coffee, it is 9:40. He has walked about 2.4 miles. It is good.
